Graycor Industrial Awarded Air Quality Control System Project by NIPSCO

Graycor Industrial Constructors was recently awarded a major Air Quality Control System (AQCS) project by Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) for its Michigan City Generating Station in Michigan City, Indiana. This coal-fired electric generating plant is being upgraded with air emissions reduction equipment to further improve the environment. The $250-million project is part of an ambitious plan to install state-of-the-art equipment at NIPSCO’s coal-fired generating stations. The pollution control technology will take the form of a dry flue gas desulphurization (FGD), also known as a scrubber.

“We are excited about the opportunity to work with NIPSCO on this key, strategic project,” says Joe George, Vice President at Graycor Industrial Constructors. “We feel that we add value and provide the right construction solution to NIPSCO given our environmental experience and expertise, and look forward to helping them achieve their goals on this exciting project.”

NIPSCO, with headquarters in Merrillville, Ind., is one of the seven energy distribution companies of NiSource Inc. With more than 786,000 natural gas customers and 457,000 electric customers across the northern third of Indiana, NIPSCO is the largest natural gas distribution company, and the second largest electric distribution company, in the state of Indiana. NiSource distribution companies serve 3.8 million natural gas and electric customers primarily in seven states.

This AQCS project commenced in October 2013 and is expected to be on-line in early 2016.

Graycor has also worked with NIPSCO on the AQCS installation at its Bailly and R.M. Schahfer Generating Station plants in Indiana. Graycor has also recently worked on AQCS projects for Alliant Energy, American Electric Power, Duke Energy, Midwest Generation, Otter Tail Power, and Xcel Energy.
